Ahimsa -non-harming- is the first Yama or ethical rules of yoga (from Yoga Sutras of Patanjali). Defined as nonviolence, non-injury, compassion and kindness.
Practicing ahimsa is restraining of any violent or negative impulses that could harm oneself or others. It could be through thoughts, speech or actions.
